Physician, Anesthesiologist (1 FTE)

Qualifications. The health care worker (HCW) shall possess and maintain the minimum general qualifications stated in Section C of the basic contract and NHCP core privileges. In addition, the HCW shall:

Possess and maintain board certification in Anesthesiology from either the American Board of Anesthesiology or the American Osteopathic Board of Anesthesiology.

Possess and maintain current certification in Basic Life Saving (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and in the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).

Possess one year of clinical work experience within the preceding three years performing regional anesthesia.

Services shall be provided in the assigned clinical area Monday through Friday between the hours of 0600 and 1830 for either an 8, 9, or 10 hour shift (to include an uncompensated 30 minute or 1 hour meal break, depending on shift length). Services are not normally required on federal holidays. The HCW shall be on duty for about 40-hours each week, except during periods of approved leave and holidays. In no instance will the HCW be required to provide services (on-site service plus approved leave and holidays) in excess of 80 hours per 2-week period. The specific duty hours will be scheduled 30 days in advance by the Government.


As assigned, the HCW shall perform the applicable duties given in Section C of the basic contract and NHCP subspecialty core privileges. In addition, the HCW shall:

Provide a full range of Anesthesiologist services in accordance with privileges granted by the Commanding Officer.

Provide preoperative assessment, intra-operative and postoperative management of surgical patients or patients requiring procedures outside the operating room, e.g. MRI, CT, and Invasive Radiology.

Advocate for the patient in the operating room.

Evaluate the patient’s medical history, recent medications, and medical condition.

Inform the patient about the procedures associated with their surgery; discuss the anesthetic choices, their risks and benefits.

Order laboratory tests and prescribe medication as appropriate.

Possess and maintain current competency in Electronic Health Record and Information Systems used at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton.

Attend the monthly Anesthesia Department meetings.

Participate in education of Residents, Student Nurse Anesthetists, medical students, and other trainees in the operating room, conferences, and didactic settings.
